The best margaritas are created outside your final drinking glass (in a shaker) with consistent measurement (using a jigger), shaken well with ice, and strained. But we did not know this when we started, so we made the classic rookie mistakes.
We bought a shaker. A few days later, we bought a jigger. More time passed. We bought a zester… and so on. We purchased only what we thought we needed at the time, and the list kept growing.
