When I lost both of my parents just after graduating high school, I was confronted with many harsh realities, including the loss of my home and, unfortunately, ZERO financial support. My parents left no life insurance, no money, and no assets (home, car, or cash), so I had to work three low-skill jobs that barely covered housing, food, and community college expenses.
I saw two paths: make excuses or move forward in a positive and constructive way to rebuilt everything. Rather than focusing on what I didn’t have, I evaluated what I did have. I immediately leveraged great friends, family, a drive to survive, and MUSIC. I studied my ass off in school, and transferred to Cornell University, where I spent nearly every cent I had without touching recently earned savings for graduate school.
I’ll never forget graduation day at Cornell, because my sister gave me a 20 year old damaged 1969 Chyrsler Newport that got 8 miles to the gallon, and I could not have been happier. I loaded the car and drove to Durham, North Carolina to attend graduate school at Duke University. I had secured a job as a receptionist at the hospital, but I was out of money. I slept in my car, ate peanut butter, and drank water every day until I secured my first paycheck and put down a deposit for an apartment.
My love for all types of music was a savior, inspiring and motivating me to not just survive but thrive. From workouts to weddings and work celebrations, music was present, and it’s been a force in many of life’s best moments with friends and family.
Amidst this musical odyssey, a friend with a flair for fun introduced me to the vibrant world of Margaritas. It was a serendipitous fusion of tunes and tequila. Our gatherings became impromptu jam sessions, with each Margarita mix and adventure turning into a new verse in our ever-expanding songbook.
As we experimented with tequila and melodies, our collection of recipes and riffs grew exponentially. They were scattered across paper scraps and binders, like lost lyrics waiting to be sung. It dawned on me that these creations deserved an audience, a stage to shine upon. Thus, I decided to orchestrate all our content into a harmonious compilation for easy access on this site. Mundo Margarita was born!
Now, my music and Margaritas resonate together on Spotify and YouTube, a duet of delight for anyone who listens. If my symphony of spirits strikes a chord with you, I invite you to become a fan and subscribe or slide into my Instagram DMs. And for those you love art, you may want to visit my Margarita Collection, probably the world’s largest collection of margarita digital art that I continue to grow!
Your feedback and contributions are the encore to my performance, and I welcome them with open arms and an open heart.
Sincerely,
Greg Archer
